Benjamin Moore’s Scuff X is a beautiful product. The product is an extension of the Ultra Spec line which is a decent commercial grade product that is affordable. When Benjamin Moore released Scuff x in the spring of 2017, we were among the first painters to use the product at it inception.
We first used the Scuff X line on Verizon Wireless stores then almost a few weeks later Ulta started using Scuff X as well. One of the first things we immediately noticed is that Scuff x delivers a beautiful finish. Benjamin Moore came out with Scuff X to compete with Sherwin Williams and PPG’s pre-catalyzed epoxy products. Hands downs, Scuff X delivers exactly what it says, excellent scuff resistance. Sherwin Williams pre-catalyzed epoxy offers a level of scuff and scratch resistance but only after the product cures for 21 days. Benjamin Moore’s Scuff X delivers scratch resistance from my experience within a couple of days.
Scuff x gives a beautiful finish that pre-catalyzed epoxies don’t. Pre-catalyzed epoxies are usually used in restrooms and light duty kitchens in restaurants where beauty isn’t really appreciated. Scuff X offers more durability and a finish that you can use in your home. It’s easy to use and clean up is fairly easy if you don’t delay. I recommend using Scuff X on doors and bathrooms if you don’t have a budget for Aura. You get the same washability as well as scuff and scratch resistance as Aura. Aura just gives a better finish but Scuff X isn’t designed to compete with Aura. It’s designed to compete with similiar products from competition. Pre-catalyzed epoxies can’t be used in the same conversation as Aura or Emeraldy by Sherwin Williams but Scuff X can.
Our recommendation is to use Scuff X for high traffic areas.
